The 8" geared DA sander, commonly referred to as a "Bondo Hog" is designed for heavy stripping.  It is usually used when taking down 3 or more coats of paint, and when working over body filler (bondo).  It cuts the time of doing these jobs in half, or 2/3's. 

There is a special paper that is made for this tool, that is designed with an open coat, so as not to load as quickly as the normal paper.  it can last up to 4 or 5 times as long when being used for this purpose.
